WINTER 2009 NEWSLETTER
Swine Flu. As you know there has been a lot of publicity about Swine Flu in recent months and many of you will be concerned about this. The NHS issues guidelines to all GPs which we are obliged to follow. These are subject to frequent change. If you think you might have Swine Flu you should stay at home and check your symptoms either on www.nhs24.com or call the swine flu information number 0800 1 513 513 to hear the latest advice. The symptoms of Swine Flu include high temperature, cough, headache, weakness and fatigue, aching joints, sore throat, runny nose. If you are still worried or feel you are getting worse, call NHS 24 or call us at the practice. You will be advised what to do next. A vaccine is now available and is being offered to those most at risk.
Extended Opening Hours. For the past year we have been holding surgeries on Monday evening until 8pm and on Wednesday and Thursday morning from 7.30 am. There has been some confusion about the arrrangements, which we would like to clarify. If you would like to see a doctor during these times an appointment must be made by contacting reception DURING NORMAL OPENING HOURS. This is because the surgery is staffed only by one doctor and security staff during extended hours. Unfortunately the doctor will not be able to see you if you attend during these times without an appointment. If an emergency arises before 8am or after 6pm you should contact NHS 24 as usual. We would also ask that if possible you should attend the normal daytime surgery so that these extra appointments can be kept open for patients who would otherwise have difficulty in attending during normal hours. This is also to your benefit, as during daytime hours the Practice Nurse and other staff will also be available in the Practice.
Antenatal services Thornliebank Health Centre is now the centre for antenatal care for much of the south side of Glasgow. The clinic is held every Thursday and is run by midwives from the Southern General Hospital.
New Telephone System You may have noticed that our new telephone system is now in operation. When you call the health centre you will be asked to choose from 4 options, and your call will be diverted appropriately. We hope that it will now be easier to contact us, particularly at busy times. The system also allows you to access our 24 hour repeat prescription service.
